Cookie and Analytics Notice
In short
- This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it’s used. It isn’t used for advertising.
- In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and wherever we can’t tell where you are, it runs only if you allow it.
- You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page.
- The FamBrief app doesn’t use Google Analytics or any cookies. Its own usage statistics are explained in the Privacy Policy.
1. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how people use fambrief.app, such as which pages are visited and how visitors arrive, so we can improve the site. It records page views and similar events, and, like any service your browser contacts, Google receives your IP address and browser information.
We’ve set it up so it isn’t used for advertising: advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization stay off, and Google signals is turned off. The website doesn’t send Google Analytics your name, your email address or anything from the FamBrief app. Google Analytics keeps event data for no longer than 14 months. Google’s own use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
2. When we ask first
If you visit from the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Google Analytics doesn’t load until you choose Allow analytics. If you choose Reject, it stays off and sets no cookies. If we can’t tell where you are, we ask the same way.
Elsewhere, including the United States, Google Analytics runs without asking, and you can turn it off at any time with Cookie settings.
3. Working out your country
To decide whether to ask, your browser asks ipwho.is for your country. Only if that fails or doesn’t answer within about a second and a half does it ask FreeIPAPI (freeipapi.com) instead. Like any service your browser contacts, they receive your IP address and normal request information, such as your browser type, and they handle it under their own policies. The requests carry no cookies and don’t say which page you’re on.
FamBrief uses only the country code they return and sends them nothing else: no messages, plans or information from the app. If neither answers, the website asks before running analytics. While a choice you’ve made is valid, the website doesn’t look up your country again.
4. What’s stored in your browser
- _ga (cookie, set by Google Analytics): tells visits from the same browser apart. Lasts up to 180 days after your last visit.
- _ga_ followed by our property’s ID (cookie, set by Google Analytics): keeps track of the current visit. Lasts up to 180 days after your last visit.
- fambrief_consent (local storage, set by FamBrief): remembers your choice, that is whether you allowed or rejected analytics, your country if it was known, when you chose, and the version of this notice. Lasts about 180 days.
The Google Analytics cookies are set only when analytics runs. FamBrief’s own code sets no other cookies, and the website uses no advertising or social media cookies. After your choice expires, or if this notice changes, you may be asked again.
5. Changing your choice
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to allow or reject analytics. If you reject analytics after allowing it, Google Analytics stops collecting from then on and its cookies are removed from this browser. Information already sent to Google isn’t recalled. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser’s settings, or use a browser that blocks analytics.
6. The FamBrief app is separate
Website analytics is separate from the FamBrief app. The app doesn’t use Google Analytics, cookies or advertising IDs. It sends its own limited usage statistics to FamBrief’s server, which you can turn off in the app with Help improve FamBrief in Settings. The Privacy Policy explains how they work.
