How can we help?

Answers about adding messages, checking plans, reminders, Free and Pro, and your privacy.

What FamBrief does

FamBrief turns the messages your family gets, like school letters, activity updates and appointment details, into clear plans. You check what FamBrief found before anything is saved. Tomorrow then shows what’s happening next and what’s still left to do, with an evening reminder if you want one.

FamBrief doesn’t connect to your email, texts, school apps or calendar. It only reads what you choose to add. The app is in English.

Supported phones

FamBrief is coming soon to iPhone and Android. It’s built for iPhone with iOS 15 or later, and for Android phones with Android 7.0 or later.

Adding a message

Tap Add a message, then choose:

  • Take a photo of a paper letter or notice.
  • Choose a photo: a photo or screenshot you already have.
  • Choose a PDF: a letter, newsletter or form.
  • Type or paste text: something you heard, received or want to remember.

You can also share into FamBrief from another app: the message text, one photo or one PDF at a time.

FamBrief doesn’t open links. Share the message text, a screenshot or photo, or a PDF instead.

Photos can be up to 10 MB and PDFs up to 20 MB. Shared, typed or pasted text can be up to 64 KB. The first time you add a message, FamBrief explains how it reads it and asks before continuing.

What counts as an AI import

Each message, photo, screenshot or PDF that FamBrief reads counts as one AI import, including one where it finds nothing to plan.

These don’t use an import:

  • trying the example with See how FamBrief works;
  • checking whether a message updates a plan you saved;
  • an import that fails with an error.

If an import is interrupted and you try again, it counts once. Imports are counted over the last 30 days, so each one stops counting 30 days after it was used. Settings shows how many you’ve used.

Free and Pro

  • Free: up to 5 AI imports every 30 days, one named profile plus Family, and Tomorrow, evening reminders and update checks.
  • Pro: up to 100 AI imports every 30 days, multiple family profiles, and everything in Free.

A profile is a person you plan for, like a child or another adult. Family covers plans for everyone. When you reach your import limit, your saved plans, Tomorrow and reminders keep working.

Pro is an optional subscription through the App Store or Google Play. You’ll see the price in your currency before you buy.

Restoring purchases

If you reinstall FamBrief or move to a new phone, get Pro back with the same Apple or Google account: open Settings in FamBrief, tap Upgrade to Pro, then Restore purchases. If Settings already shows FamBrief Pro, Restore purchases is on that card too.

Managing or canceling Pro

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple or Google. In FamBrief, open Settings and tap Manage subscription on the FamBrief Pro card, or:

  • iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  • Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid being charged again. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.

Evening reminders

Reminders are optional and stay off until you turn them on. FamBrief may offer them after you add a plan, and you can turn them on or off at any time in Settings under Evening reminders, where you can also set the Reminder time (7:00 PM unless you change it).

When they’re on, FamBrief sends one notification the evening before each day that has a plan. It never shows plan details on your lock screen: it just says “You have something to get ready for tomorrow.” Reminders are scheduled on your phone, so they don’t need a connection.

If reminders don’t arrive, check that notifications are allowed for FamBrief in your phone’s settings. On Android, battery settings can delay notifications, and timing can be a few minutes off.

Checking details before saving

Before anything is saved, FamBrief shows what it found, with the words from your message under each detail. If FamBrief isn’t sure about something, it says Check this detail. You choose who the plan is for, and when a message has more than one plan, which ones to add.

If something isn’t right, don’t add that plan: go back, and nothing is saved. Details can’t be edited during the check, and saved plans can’t be edited or removed in this version. A later message that changes or cancels a plan can update it after you review the change.

Updates and cancellations

When a new message looks like it changes a plan you saved, FamBrief shows Check for updates with exactly what would change: a new time, date, place or title, items added or dropped, or a cancellation.

  • Nothing changes until you tap Apply changes or Cancel this plan.
  • If the message is about something else, tap This is not the same plan, and nothing is changed.
  • If FamBrief can’t find the plan a message refers to, it tells you, and nothing is added or changed.

Checking for updates doesn’t use an extra import.

New phone or reinstalling

FamBrief has no account and doesn’t sync, so it can’t move your plans to another phone. Deleting the app deletes the plans stored in it on that phone. On Android, FamBrief’s data isn’t included in backups or phone-to-phone transfers. On iPhone, FamBrief marks its data to be left out of iCloud and computer backups.

After reinstalling or switching phones, use Restore purchases to get Pro back.

Using FamBrief on a partner’s phone

Each phone has its own FamBrief with its own plans. FamBrief doesn’t share or sync plans between phones, so plans you add won’t appear on your partner’s phone. Each of you can add the messages that matter to you.

Your privacy

  • There’s no FamBrief account, and your plans are stored on your phone.
  • Messages, photos and PDFs you add are sent securely to be read, and FamBrief’s servers don’t keep them.
  • Usage statistics never include your messages, plans, names or places. You can turn them off with Help improve FamBrief in Settings.

The Privacy Policy has the full details.
